This years web site is under construction. Below are the notes from each trip

Saturday Jan 3: Bruce Ito, Bob Buzzard, Markus Ito Trip to the nine mile with a bit of a breeze and strong current. At peak current the fishing was good with limits of rock cod and 3 nice lings. A nice relaxed way to start the new year.

Sunday April 19:Bruce Ito, Arno Chrispeels A pretty ugly trip. We spent the first hours of the AM chasing spots of yellowtail (rather birds) without any success. Then an ugly current with 20 knot wind and chop prevented even a 2lb drop from getting down to the 9 mile spots. So our plan of picking up a few bottom fish at the end of the day brought only 2 smaller reds.

Saturday May 30:Erv Wheeler, Gay Nobel A rumor of great Yellowtail fishing enticed us to La Jolla on a calm and overcast day. We joined at least 100 other boats and a dozen kayacks packed near the preserve. We could manage only 2 strikes on trolled Sardines all day and these fish escaped into the kelp. In contrast to the last trip we stopped at the 9 mile on the way back and brought home some nice bottom fish including Ervs pair of 4lb reds.

Friday July 10: Neuman, Wheeler, Velasquez Fished the 9 mile, 178 spots all day on a warm, calm ocean for 1 Yellowfin

Friday July 24: Bruce Ito, Erv Wheeler, Bob Buzzard, Gary Nobel, Grant Larson Another calm day on the ocean. This time the fish were a little bit hungrier. We had just slowed down to put out the trolls when Grant spotted breaking fish 10 yards from the boat. This time they were hungry and we had 5 nice 20 lb Yellowfin in the box by 6:30 and everybody was now awake. We spent the rest of the day trolling and watching breaking fish largely ignore the Seabear. Towards the end of the day we discovered that a stealthy approach to breaking fish and chumming with chunked bait worked well. We all got plenty of rest while Grant worked on another 25lb Yellowfin with 15lb test. We finished the day with 11 nice Yellowfin 15 to 26 lbs and several small Dorado from a paddy decorated with jumping fish.

Friday August 14: Kennedy,Bruce Ito, Laveroni, Gary Schenk, Nobel We worked our way thru a difficult chop to near Catalina only to have the Bluefin pose for the fathometer but not the gaff. We found some nice Dorado on Paddies on the way home to manage dinner on a slow and frustrating day. In retrospect it turns out we overran the days bite by about 30 nm. The Yellowfin were at the top of the 9 mile bank.

Saturday August 29 Make A Wish: Grant Larson, Sam Hernandez, Bruce Ito, Arno Chrispeels, Nick Cesena: We struggled to find Mackerel for two days and finally found them near the bait tank on the make a wish evening only to loose some bait to a clogged intake. With another scoop we started for the 277 on a smooth and bright night ( the usual make a wish weather and small craft warnings came later). Finding only fiberglass and cooler water we left this area and finally spotting some breaking fish we spent the day below the 267. An hour long drift with multiple hookups and then a slow plunker bite on chummed chunks brought us 10 modest Yellowfin. We topped off the day back at the slip with Ito grilled Yellowfin Tacos, Poke and wine.

Friday September 11: Grant Larson, Bruce Ito, Lance Eischeld, Erv Wheeler The trip out to the 267 on a calm and HOT ocean was uneventful and the The day started with a dream paddy spotted in the morning grey light . Unfortunately like a few dozen of its friends this paddy was empty. We spent the day touring a great deal of real estate and saw no breaking fish, few marks and the only entertainment came from the occasional feeding marlin and finally 3 paddies that produced 1 Dorado and 4 Yellowfin

Friday September 25: Grant Larson, Bruce Ito, Arno Chrispeels, Bob Buzzard, Andy Jimenez Our first trip south did not start out well. The bait barge only had 2 inch anchovies and only a scoop and a half at that. We spent a couple of hours at the bait barge picking up a dozen larger mackerel. By noon most of the anchovies had died. We fished a large area inside and south of the hidden bank. Paddies were rare and often empty. We managed to find one holding The Seabears first Wahoo which Arno caught on a jig. We finished with lots of skipjack ( on bait, jigs and troll) and a half dozen Dorado all at 2 or 3 widely spaced paddies.

Saturday Oct 10: Grant Larson, Bruce Ito, Bob Buzzard, Nick Abraitis, Markus Ito We left for the San Salvador knoll with visions of high yellowfin counts and what looked like some really nice Sardine bait. The day started with a troll hooked Billfish that bounced off a Marader and ate a large feather. Bruce and Markus fought a Shortbilled Spearfish for 45 min. and released a healthy but wornout fish. The rest of the day was pretty frustrating as we watched Cattle boats board small ( maybe 15 in) Yellowfin which ignored our Sardines and wanted anchovies. We came back to the 9 mile and and in one and a half hours managed a nice load of bottom fish including a nice ling and several Reds.

Thursday Dec. 3: Bruce Ito, Greg Real, Bill Weilbacher Trip looking for some late year Yellowfin and to show off the Seabear to potential buyers. Nice trip but it did not work out well in the end. No Yellowfin and no Seabear sale. The sale eventually collapsed on a whirlwind of a boat speed run, a sea trial, a series of Low offers, and disagreements over Blister repairs all occurring over Christmas and New Years
